Created at the height of Thatcher’s attempt to revive Feudalism, and with one foot in the mud of Greenham Common, Barker’s gloriously labyrinthine play celebrates the irrepressible British capacity for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Returning from the crusades, a knight and his male companions are shocked to discover that everything has changed in their absence. Aggrieved by this betrayal, they set about building a castle to restore order. But the women they left behind have other ideas, and things rapidly spiral out of control…
