Strauss Oboe Concerto

We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Kelly, formerly of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and now Principal Oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic, to perform Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto with the Conservatoire’s Symphony Orchestra. One of the composer’s last works, it features in a concert conducted by current CBSO Assistant Conductor Jaume Santonja.

During the second half of tonight’s concert, the honorary award of Doctor of Birmingham City University will be conferred upon RBC’s founding Principal, Professor Kevin Thompson.
