An evening of music composed by some of South Africa’s brightest and most talented young artists and performed by students of the Birmingham Conservatoire Saxophone Department, joined by members of the Voice, Woodwind and Percussion Departments.

This promises to be a diverse and vibrant concert celebrating the crossing of musical paths, with UK and world premieres of works by Clare Loveday, Matthijs van Dijk, Arthur Feder, Kevin Volans and Jürgen Brauninger.  A brand new saxophone octet by Dr. Clare Loveday will be featured, who will be in attendance having worked closely with conservatoire students in rehearsals.

Critics have described Clare Loveday’s music as 'obstinate and fierce, big-boned and raw', 'subtle' and 'elusive'. She has been described as having 'a quite individual post-tonal harmonic language' and of writing works that are 'exciting to listen to and yet obviously also enjoyable to play'.
