Brahms Academic Festival Overture
Sibelius Symphony No.5

Join us as Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s flagship Symphony Orchestra performs two enduring staples from the classical music canon. Sibelius’s Symphony No.5 went through various revisions before the composer was satisfied with the rich, vivid and soaring final version which will be heard tonight. This is preceded, appropriately, by a piece first performed at a university – Brahms wrote and conducted his Academic Festival Overture in thanks for an honorary degree.
