This is an amazing double-bill which focuses through the music on the ways contemporary jazz has developed since the changes brought about by Ornette Coleman.
Mike Fletcher has been researching Coleman's recordings in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and argues that his major contribution to jazz is developing new ways of engaging with song-form composition.
Mike's group will be playing music inspired by his research. The group is Mike Fletcher, Alicia Gardener-Trejo, Faye MacCalman (saxes/woodwind), Aaron Diaz (trumpet), Nick Jurd (bass) and Jonathan Silk (drums).
In the second set a group very much of the 2020s with Golding, Edwards and Noble will be playing a freely improvised set. Note: there will be no student support on this occasion.
Mike Fletcher's research is supported by AHRC.
A TDE Promotion.
