Forced to give up her home and move in with her daughter, Peggy aged 86 sits in an armchair surrounded by boxes. One of them hides a secret and hasn’t been opened for many years...until now.
Set in 2019 and 1950, Lifting the Lid is a story of secrets and denial, of rules and repercussions, and explores the traumatic consequences on the lives of countless women.
This has been devised entirely by first year Applied Performance students at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire from research with residents from Middleton Road Sheltered Housing Community who kindly shared their stories and experiences of growing up in the 1950’s and later and archived documentary footage.
