ISM presents: The future of music featuring BBC Young Musicians of the Year

Join us at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for a day of performances from 2018’s BBC Young Musician winners, both products of Birmingham’s thriving music scene, as well as informative sessions from selected music sector experts. You’re also invited to join fellow music professionals and music lovers for a networking lunch.

These events are open to all. You don't have to be an ISM member to attend. You can book for the morning and afternoon sessions and the networking lunch separately, or book for the whole day for just £25.

Xhosa Cole Quartet performance and Focus on music education
10.35am – 12.00pm

Join the audience for a special performance from BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2018, Birmingham based saxophonist Xhosa Cole. Xhosa’s winning performance was described by judges as ‘heartfelt, sincere and communicative’. We’ll also be joined by music education experts Dr Alison Daubney and Professor Martin Fautley to discuss the current music education landscape.

Lauren Zhang performance and Param Vir in conversation
2.30pm – 4.20pm

17 year old pianist and BBC Young Musician of the Year 2018 Lauren Zhang joins us to perform at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studies as part of the Junior Department. Be part of the audience for this intimate performance in the conservatoire’s recital hall. Then join a session with leading composer Param Vir, who has had works commissioned by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and performed at BBC Proms. He will discuss his work Songs on Poems of Tagore for soprano and cello, with musical accompaniment.
