saxophonist/composer John O'Gallagher

This concert, the result of a partnership between the Festival Ensemble(s) and the jazz department of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, explores the links between contemporary music and jazz.

Five students from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire join five musicians from the 5 Ensemble(s) to perform two new works commissioned to two composers belonging to the dual culture of improvised/written music : Sébastien Gaxie (France) and John O'Gallagher  (US/UK).

Four other pieces by the two composers complete this programme placed under the sign of improvisation without borders.

Programme
Sébastien Gaxie Colorful Waves (UK première)* - jazz quintet and classical quintet
John O'Gallagher Chimera (world première)** - jazz quintet and classical quintet
Sébastien Gaxie Rocking chair and Mountains - jazz quintet
