Programme to include
Appalachian Spring: Suite (13 instruments)
Wagner Siegfried Idyll

In the 1940s, Aaron Copland was commissioned to write a ballet on an American theme: Appalachian Theme was the result, and a few years later he recreated the suite for chamber ensemble that we hear this evening. Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, however, was written as a birthday present for his wife and first performed for her on Christmas morning in 1870.
