Friday Lunchtime Concert: J.S. Bach
St Martin’s Church in The Bullring
Edgbaston Street, Birmingham, B5 5BB
Booking not necessary
Hear the six unaccompanied violin Sonatas and Partitas by J.S.Bach in a lunchtime concert in the beautiful setting of St Martin's Church.
These miraculous creations take you through a journey of a lifetimeand requires complete technical control over the instrument whilst demanding a full range of musical expression and colour, as commanded here by Ruta Lubutyte.
The second Partita in D minor consists of five movements based on Baroque dance-variation form - the Allemande, Corrente, Sarabande, and Gigue, ending with the monumental Chaconne.
Its sheer scale, intimacy and intricacy makes the Chaconne the single most important work for solo violin. Ruta is a fourth year student at Birmingham Conservatoire, studying under Simon Smith and Pavel Fischer
Ruta is a winner of several competitions in her home county of Staffordshire, as well as being one of the finalists of Staffordshire Young Musician of the Year.
A versatile musician, showing great interest in early music performance and active as a chamber and orchestral musician, Ruta is part of the newly formed Remus string quartet and a member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra.
She also took part in various festivals and courses for solo and chamber music, most recently she participated in the Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Sweden.
Ruta successfully auditioned for a place on a Masters course in London where she hopes to continue her studies.
