City of Sounds: New Compositions in Jazz with Saxophonist Tim Garland
City of Sounds Festival
£7 (£5) (£3, BCU students)
An annual fixture in the Adrian Boult Hall's summer programme, we welcome the renowned composer and saxophonist Tim Garland to adjudicate the 2016 offering of new jazz compositions and arrangements from the Conservatoire's senior students. Tim has worked with a veritable who is who of contemporary jazz, most significantly as a member of Chick Corea's group along with being a significant composer of large-scale works in his own right.
Music will be performed by the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra, directed by student conductors on their final year of the jazz course, under the guidance of the Conservatoire's Head of Jazz Jeremy Price. Pieces will include new arrangements of classic 1950s Horace Silver compositions, early George Russell, as well as new originals. After a break for adjudication, Tim will announce the winner followed by a second performance of the winning work.
