Director/piano Guy Murgatroyd

Kapustin Sonata No.1, Op.39 “Sonata Fantasia”
Kapustin Sonata No.16, Op.131
Kapustin Sonata No.14, Op.120
Kapustin Sonata No.9, Op.78

Nikolai Kapustin has achieved an international reputation through his piano writing including concertos, chamber music and notably twenty piano sonatas. In a style broadly mixing Russian lyricism and bebop jazz, his music is as eclectic as it is eccentric.

Acclaimed fourth year undergraduate pianist Guy Murgatroyd takes on four of these explosive
sonatas, including two only recently published, in a recital that will test his virtuosity as well as his sense of swing!
