City of Sounds: Destruction Party featuring The Destroyers and The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble (Directed by Joe Broughton)
City of Sounds Festival
£12 (£10) (£5, BCU students)

Featuring The Destroyers and The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble (Directed by Joe Broughton).
With an infectious sound full of riotous genre-bending melodic virtuosity, MegaFolk grooves and songs, The Destroyers have built up a huge following both nationwide and beyond. A unique stage show that combines huge madcap energy, stage theatrics and immense musical craftsmanship and ingenuity, it's no surprise that they win over audiences wherever they perform.
From their hometown of Birmingham to nationwide festivals such as Glastonbury and Cambridge, onto international successes like Spraoi and Pennabilli, the band continue to live up to the legend of their live shows. And with the majority of the band having studied at Birmingham Conservatoire, it is a huge treat to welcome them back to the venue where they once performed as bright-eyed students, for one of their few Birmingham shows this year.
The Destroyer's partners in crime for this fantastic double-header send-off for the Adrian Boult Hall are the inimitable Conservatoire Folk Ensemble led by Joe Broughton. Over the last two years The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble has played major shows everywhere from The Royal Albert Hall to Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, Towersey and Shambala festivals. Set-up by Joe Broughton 19 years ago, long before the current trend of big folk band line-ups and crazy folk fusions, The Folk Ensemble were drawing on influences of folk, funk, classical, ska, reggae, jazz and hip-hop.
Not only is the live performance of this 49 piece funky orchestra second to none, you also have a very good chance of seeing the stars of tomorrow with Joe having taught Jim Moray, Sam Sweeney, Katriona Gilmore and The Old Dance School to name just a few.
The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble is forever changing, always unique and has an energy & power that is unrivalled; it has to be seen to be believed. Using players from the Conservatoire ensures that the standard of musicianship is of the highest standard and being led by folk fiddler Joe Broughton (Urban Folk Quartet, Albion Band, Joss Stone) means that the music has the feel of a spontaneous folk orchestra and a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
If you are fully fledged folk fan, lover of any good music or just looking for a fantastic night out we guarantee that this special closing gig for you. The groups will also be performing earlier than their usual set times, which promises to make this a great family event too!
