The concert is the brainchild of Stephannie Williams, the widow of Gwyn Williams who passed away in June 2015.

Gwyn was a fine viola player and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra became his professional home, where he was appointed principal viola by Sir Simon Rattle.

During 2016 Stephannie worked tirelessly with the support of many of Gwyn’s peers and friends to set up The Gwyn Williams Charitable Trust For Young Viola Players. The trust will be dedicated to her husband’s memory and his legacy of profound viola music accomplishment.

This inaugural concert launches the charity and is the first of many fundraising events planned to raise money that will help students studying at Birmingham Conservatoire.

The trust’s mission is to be able to give young people between 13 – 22 years of age studying the viola financial support. This could be a contribution towards buying a better instrument, a subsidy towards the cost of lessons or a contribution for more advanced study
