International Piano Academy 2014

Events to ignite and inspire!

16-31 July 2014, Birmingham Conservatoire

This summer, Birmingham City University's International Piano Academy will be inviting you to a series of fantastic public concerts and events, with a chance to witness talented pianists from around the world.

Highlights include appearances from Julian Lloyd Webber, Peter Donohoe and Mark Racz.

Great Classical Events and Concerts

  • Renowned pianist Peter Donohoe (pictured right) will give the opening concert with a lunchtime recital of a fabulous programme. 
  • Julian Lloyd Webber will give his first public talk and Q&A session since suffering the neck injury which forced him to retire from cello performance.

  • Oboist turned music consultant, Karen O’Connor, will deliver a fascinating public lecture designed to help ease nerves on the stage. 
  • ‘Didi and Friends’, will showcase talent from Birmingham Conservatoire’s own departments in an imaginative music night with colourful clothing.
  • A fun concert programme for all participants of the International Piano Academy course, including eight-hands-piano and popular classical music.

  • Last, but not least, ‘Mozart on different keyboards’ will show the same music on both fortepiano and modern piano, to reveal the differences in terms of phrasing, fingering, interpretation at different periods in history.
