Ulla Benz

Ulla Benz received her first violin lessons at the age of five. After her studies with Zakhar Bron, Liana Issakadze and Werner Scholz at the universities of Music in Munich, Lübeck and Berlin, Germany, she was honored with the Cultural Award for Outstanding Musicians of Germany and has been a frequent guest at various music festivals in Europe, Asia and South America.

As the soloist and guest concert master of various orchestras Ulla Benz performed with such orchestras like the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (Norway), the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfonica Municipal de Sao Paulo (Brazil) and the Philharmonic Orchestra Asuncion (Paraguay).

Ulla Benz teaches as a visiting lecturer at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem/ Ramallah since 2006 for the Barenboim Said Foundation, at Yehudi Menuhin School as a deputy teacher in 2007 and 2008. Since 2007 she is violin coach for the Palestine National Youth Orchestra and for the west Eastern Divan Orchestra.

Since 2006 she toured with the Hungarian pianist Tamás Kéry several times through South America, where she played solo concerts with orchestras in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Additional she was invited to give masterclasses at more than 10 universities of music. Ulla Benz performed the premieres of Brahms, Korngold and Prokofiew (no.2) violin concertos in Paraguay.

2010- 2013 Ms Benz has been teaching in various capacities at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK.

Currently since 2012 Ulla Benz is a member of the jury of national and international violin competitions. Among her violin students are price winners of international violin competitions. Since 2016 Ulla Benz is also violin tutor in Musik Akademie Heidelberg und Musikakademie Darmstadt, Germany, additional she starts to teach at Guildhall School of Music at the Junior Department.

Additional Ulla Benz is a medical doctor in her second profession, where she developed a special interest in musician´s medicine and music physiology, which she includes in her violin teaching method.

In 2017 she is invited to give masterclasses in Singapore and Malaysia.
