Katharine Gittings

Katharine Gittings joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 1987 under Sir Simon Rattle and has since performed in numerous prestigious concerts, recordings and international tours with the Orchestra. Katharine has also toured and made recordings with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group with conductors including Thomas Ades and Oliver Knussen.

Katharine has been Leader of Longborough Festival Orchestra since 2001, giving performances of Wagner operas each year, culminating in three complete Ring cycles in 2013.

Projects with the Berkley Salon Ensemble include the highly successful series of Notelets concerts at the CBSO Centre and Silent Film creative music collaborations with local primary schools.

Katharine is firmly committed to encouraging the next generation of violinists, teaching at Birmingham Conservatoire, University of Birmingham and King Edward's School. She also coaches the Birmingham Schools' Symphony Orchestra.
