Henry Herford studied Classics and English at Cambridge and completed a one-year Diploma in Social Administration at York University as part of an initial career which included teaching and social work. He then studied singing at Royal Northern College of Music, joining the Glyndebourne Chorus from 1977-8, where his performances included solo roles on tour. Since then, Henry has pursued a varied solo career in opera, oratorio, recital, works with instrumental ensemble, radio, television and recordings. In 1998 he co-founded Abingdon Summer School for Solo Singers, which he still directs. He has undertaken teaching, masterclasses, adjudication and examinations for many of the major UK music training institutions, including Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and City University. His current teaching also includes The Oratory School, Radley College and Royal Northern College of Music.
