William took a Degree in Mathematics at Glasgow University, followed by a Masters in Intelligent Knowledge Based Systems at Essex University and has a continuing interest in the application of logic within software engineering and artificial intelligence, in particular natural language processing.

His main teaching areas have been formal methods, Artificial Intelligence and, in recent years, technology entrepreneurship.

William has held many administrative roles, including Course Director, Director of Quality Assurance, Director of Postgraduate Programmes, Head of School, and currently Director of International Recruitment. He has been involved in many course developments and recently led the development of a new suite of postgraduate programmes within the School. He has extensive experience of quality assurance, particularly with regard to joint international programmes.

He has chaired several University approval panels. Beyond the University, he has been an external examiner and has served as an external academic panel member for other universities at approval events for joint international programmes.
