Rozano Farah

Adult Nursing - BSc (Hons)

Rozano changed her career aspirations through Clearing and wants to open shelters in her hometown in Somalia, to help children and adults who aren’t as fortunate and who are in need of aid.

"I applied to university through UCAS, however I failed at the interview stage of the process. I have only ever wanted to get into child nursing as a career so this was a big setback for me. Most other universities that I applied for accepted my application, however I was set on going to BCU so decided to go into the world of work instead. I was spurred on by the feedback given to me in the interview at BCU, I took the advice and improved myself to give me the best chance when I went to apply again.

After completing college, I started a full-time job as a care assistant working in an elderly care home. I loved the environment and enjoyed working alongside district nurses. Having this experience allowed me to open up to considering adult nursing as a career. I worked in the care home for three months before getting my grades and applying through Clearing. I did a vast amount of research before choosing adult nursing, and one of the things that really stood out to me was how many doors adult nursing could open for me, such as working in child nursing, mental health, disability and even midwifery. I didn’t think twice on the day of my results, I called BCU and asked to apply to the adult nursing course through Clearing. I was overwhelmed when I heard that there were spaces available and was given an interview date. I took the feedback from my first interview into consideration, and I came out of it with an unconditional offer for January 2022.

The most exciting thing about all of this is that I chose a course that I didn’t know I wanted to do a couple of months prior. I had mixed feelings to start with, but when I received the interview offer, I was over the moon - probably the happiest person on earth at that point. I have always been afraid of rejection, especially with things that I really want, so applying through Clearing and getting an offer the second time round was amazing.

I’m absolutely loving my time here at BCU and have had an extremely positive experience as a first year student. University life is very different to college - you have much more responsibility and it allows you to mature. I was initially very nervous about starting, but when you settle and find your group of friends it makes it much more enjoyable. My lectures have been great so far and I have been performing well in my exams and assignments, so I’m very proud of myself.

My experience shows that you should never give up - especially if you miss out on something the first time round, don’t let it stop you from trying again. I know sometimes it’s not what we want to hear but it only builds you up as a person. If you are applying through Clearing, you are amazing and determined to get into your chosen field, so keep going! This is only the start, and you can achieve your goals if you believe in yourself."
