Join the Centre for Brexit Studies and the Basic Income Conversation on Thursday 29th April 9.00-10.00am to hear the latest research on public attitudes towards basic income based on a recent series of focus groups carried out by the Centre for Brexit Studies.

Speakers:

Prof. Alex De Ruyter, Centre Director, Centre for Brexit Studies, Birmingham City University

Michael Pugh, Director & Co-Founder, Basic Income Conversation

On the eve of the Mayoral Elections in the West Midlands, and elections across England, Wales and Scotland, the idea of a basic income is shooting up the political agenda. But is basic income going to be a vote winner, particularly in the so-called 'Red Wall' areas of the country which were so crucial in deciding the last General Election.

The Centre for Brexit Studies have partnered with the Basic Income Conversation to explore public perceptions to basic income in a series of small focus groups across Dudley, Walsall, West Bromwich, and Northfields to explore what voters think. The initial results suggest the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people's attitudes to social security and has implications for basic income advocates, politicians, and researchers.

Join Alex and Michael to discuss the results and what it means for basic income at the upcoming elections and beyond.
