Current activity:

Mak has an international reputation, having worked with some of the world’s largest IT companies – including Cisco, Microsoft, SAS and Oracle – to create courses that are engaging and industry-focused. While Head of the School of Computing, he provided leadership and strategic direction for a business worth in excess of £10 million across the computing and electronics communications disciplines. Currently Course Leader for MSc Data Networks and Security, he is also involved in a number of professional activities, including membership of the Sector Skills Council and active involvement with Edexcel, C & G and OCR. Mak’s research focuses on computer science education, industrial engagement and employability.

Current research involves areas such as computer science education, industrial engagement and employability, software defined networks, in particular the creation of self-defending and healing networks using real time machine learning techniques on the incoming data. Another focal part of Maks research is cloud based decision support systems using IoT data streams and cognitive technologies such as AI and machine learning.

Biography

Mak started his working career with W&T Avery (GEC) in 1978 as an Apprentice Design and Development Engineer. He progressed through to a Hardware Design Engineer, then Software Design Engineer dealing with special applications.
