International Multi-Unit Leadership: Developing Local Leaders in International Multi-Site Operations
Dr Chris Edger, Professor of Multi-Unit Leadership at Birmingham City Business School, has recently published a new book, looking at International Multi-Unit Leadership. This follows and builds from his earlier book, 'Effective Multi-Unit Leadership: Local Leadership in Multi-Site Situations', which was published in October 2012.
This new book gives a comprehensive and insightful view of the challenges and opportunities that multi-unit companies face on how to align local and global talent strategies to fast growing and culturally diverse business opportunities.
The fusion and deployment of local multi-site leadership (MUL) talent with expatriate colleagues is a fascinating challenge that requires constant adaptation in pursuit of positive employee engagement and enduring customer satisfaction. Based on extensive case study research across a range of multi-unit service organisations, the book advances an MUL theory and how this is used in practice.
Dr Edger has extensive industry experience and academic expertise. He was the former Executive Director of HR, Service and Productivity at Mitchells & Butlers Plc, the leading casual dining restaurant operator in the UK (Browns, All Bar One, Toby, Harvester, Sizzling, Ember etc.) and joined Birmingham City Business School as Professor of Multi-Unit Leadership in July 2010. In this role he is the Director of the Academy of Multi-Unit Leadership and Strategy which specialises in accelerating unit and multi-unit (i.e. district, area and regional) leader performance in standard format businesses.
