Dr Toritseju Rita Pessu is a Lecturer in Business at the Birmingham City University Business School. She holds a PhD in Business and Management from the University of Bolton, United Kingdom, where she examined the “Impact of Trade Policies on SMEs’ Business Relationships in the Nigerian Textile Industry: A Shared Value Approach”.  She is the First Academic Doctor from the New Institute of Management, Great Manchester, United Kingdom.

Prior to joining Birmingham City University Business School, she worked in the School of Strategy and Leadership, Coventry University as an Assistant Lecturer in International Business. She also worked in the field of sales and marketing for 9 years with companies operating both in the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Her main research interests lie in the broad fields of international business, strategic management of SMEs, consumer behaviour, inter-organisational relationships, creating shared value, qualitative studies, developing economies and emerging markets.
