Dr Imran Akhtar has a history of entrepreneurship advancement, self-employment and has worked in travel and tourism, real-estate and banking. Dr Akhtar started his lecturing career at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2013 moving to Birmingham City Business School as a full-time senior lecturer in 2018.

He has studied in Finland and the Republic of Ireland, and worked in Germany. He completed his MSc, MPhil and PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University. His PhD thesis examined the internationalisation of the UK Higher Education Institutions.

His research interests are (graduate) entrepreneurship, Strategy, Dynamic Managerial Capabilities, Organisational Routines and Higher Education Internationalisation.
