Dr Clare Jones
In industry Clare was an HR practitioner in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Finance sectors, before moving into Higher Education. She worked at Liverpool John Moores University, delivering on professional, postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, was Course Director for the BA in International Business Studies, and engaged in research with colleagues into performance management within Liverpool local government.
In 2001 she joined the Faculty of TIC at Birmingham City University where she became Assistant Manager for the Department of eBusiness, managing a team of 12 academic staff. In addition she was Course Director for a number of postgraduate courses, lectured, supervised projects, undertook consultation projects in industry and engaged in a number of cross-university activities, including course validation and faculty-wide review.
As a course director she led the successful approval of four postgraduate programmes, contributed to the approval of numerous undergraduate programmes and development of a bridging programme to the faculty's postgraduate portfolio, approved at one of its partner institutions in China. She visited China on a number of occasions, supporting academics there in the management and development of the collaboration.
She moved to Birmingham City Business School in 2008 and is an Associate Professor a role which incorporates management, curriculum development, consultancy and teaching. She has a PhD from Aston University exploring the impact of higher education on students’ perceptions of employability, which continues to be her main area of research.
