Get a head start with your UCAS application to the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment at Birmingham City University with this short video. Head of School Andy Aftelak helps you put pen to paper with his top tips and advice for writing a successful personal statement.
Writing a personal statement can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. While it can be difficult to write about yourself and your achievements, Andy explains how the personal statement is really an opportunity for Birmingham City University to find out more about you as an individual.
Your personal statement should tell us what makes you, you! What makes you different from everybody else – do you have any hobbies or interests? Have you done any volunteering with an organisation you care about? Have you had to overcome any personal challenges? Was there something in particular which sparked your interest to study a course in computing, engineering or the built environment? These are the things which shape you as a person, and tell us more about your strengths and experience beyond passing your exams.
