Sue started in the retail sector as a trainee during her degree. On graduation she went into local government and undertook the RICS external examinations and started her professional training. Following relocation to the West Midlands she went into private practice, becoming an associate partner of Lawrence and Wightman. She then moved into Social Housing to gain experience in regeneration, managing large regeneration projects in the West Midlands.

Sue has a broad experience of professional work, undertaking both residential and commercial surveys, designing, specifying and running contracts on existing and new buildings. She has acted as a Party Wall surveyor and a Planning Supervisor as well as providing evidence as an expert witness in cases involving building defects and housing disrepair.

Sue was elected a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1991 and since 1994 has been involved in the training and assessment of young surveyors. It was this passion to pass on her experiences in this exciting professional which led her in 2006 to join Birmingham City University as a Senior Lecturer. She chose the University based on her previous good experiences with training graduates.

From 2008-2012 Sue was an external examiner for the Building Surveying Degree at Anglia Ruskin University.

This year Sue was privileged to be a judge for the RICS regional awards.

Sue is currently an external examiner for Kinston University.
