Senior Lecturer in Planning in Built Environments
Simeon Shtebunaev is a senior lecturer in urban planning and doctoral researcher at Birmingham City University, researching how young people engage in the planning of future 'smart' cities. He has published works and actively worked promoting the role of teenagers. Simeon served as a trustee of the RIBA (2016-2019) and as a Vice-President for Students and Associates, co-founding the RIBA Future Architects initiative.
He also served on the RTPI General Assembly and International Committee. Currently, Simeon is an Associate of the youth organisation Beatfreeks, part of the Commonplace Young Urban Panel, Birmingham Civic Society Planning Committee and the West Midlands Combined Authority Cultural Leadership Board. Since 2016, he has co-founded and teaches annually at a summer school in architecture for secondary school children in Bulgaria. Simeon is an active committee member of the Birmingham Architectural Association.
