Do you have a love for arts and craft? If you fancy having a go and being part of a relaxed and like minded environment, the Crafty Bitches society might be for you. Read on as President Abbie shares her experiences in the group.

Our society has members from all backgrounds, courses and crafting abilities. It's a relaxed environment where you can sit and get to know like minded people whilst creating something and maybe learning a new skill.
We do lots of different crafts and try to change things up every week so people don’t get bored, can try new things and do things they have requested.
So far we have done things like knitting, embroidery, pom pom making, weaving bracelets, tissue paper jars and many more. Our next session will be cross stitch.
We’re really keen to try as many different and new things as possible and we upload on our Instagram regularly to keep our sense of community outside of university.
Why did you join this society? What does it mean to be a president or treasurer?
I joined this society in my first year as it seemed like a nice welcoming environment where I could relax, talk to new people and learn something new. I thought it would be a good stepping stone into university life, joining a society that has no demands, and would allow me to settle in better with the support of others.
Being president of this society now is an honour, keeping the society running and to be a part of other people’s university experience, offering those same opportunities to meet other people, settle into somewhere new and have a nice time.
Can students from all courses join the society?
Yes! All students are welcome from every course and every year group. You don’t have to have crafted before, beginners are very welcome and help is always available.
How often does the society meet?
The society meets once a week in person every Tuesday 6 - 7.30pm in the Social Learning Space on the third floor of Millennium Point / Parkside Building on City Centre Campus.
Collaborations
The society has already collaborated with other societies this year including the LGBTQ+ society for pronoun badge making and the 'Put The Kettle On' society for mug painting at a local café.
We have also collaborated with the yoga society last year to create lavender eye masks and macrame wall hangings.
All it takes is the societies communicating with each other to collaborate on a session that combines their voice, interests and skills.
Getting involved
As well as our 53 members, the society has three committee members: President (Boss Bitch) Abbie, Vice President (Vice Bitch) Jon and a Treasurer (Money Bitch) Beth.
How do you think being part of the society will help you in the future?
I think being a part of this society has taught me lots of skills for the future including the importance of taking time for yourself away from work and deadlines.
It has also taught me a lot about planning, listening to others, making sure everyone feels welcome and included and organisation. Aside from that I have also learnt lots of new crafts and hacks from other members of the society who are happy to share their knowledge with others.
