Project title: FIIKA

Can you tell us a little more about your project?

FIIKA is the Swedish term for breaks and snacks. Individuals who lead hectic lifestyles often do not have time for full meals and end up eating unhealthy snacks instead. FIIKA is designed to promote healthy snacking with foods such as almonds and walnuts which can aid productivity. This is the first time I have displayed any of my work, particularly work that I am proud of. It is also a good way to boost confidence when speaking to others who also have a keen interest in design.

How important is being able to exhibit externally?

This is the first time I have displayed any of my work, particularly work that I am proud of. It is also a good way to boost confidence when speaking to others who also have a keen interest in design.

What has your highlight of the course been so far?

Having access to great facilities and technicians who do their absolute best to ensure your work is complete to the highest possible standard. Getting to know other individuals from other backgrounds and understanding their cultures as well as them understanding mine is also a really positive experience.

Could you tell us a little more about your design interests?

I am interested in durable design; also design which could be used for more than one purpose to reduce bringing excess material into the home and working environment.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying Product and Furniture Design at BCU?

Listen to the tutors and technicians as they are extremely knowledgeable. Make sure you do plenty of your own individual tests too. Leave lots of time and plan ahead, as you don’t want to leave work until the last minute.
