Our student station, Scratch Radio, entered the work of Radio graduate Sophie Sparham in this year's Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards, leading her to come away with not one but two international awards.
In association with Chicago radio students, Sophie produced a series of four one hour programmes, broadcast on student station ‘Radio De Paul’ in Chicago (our sister university in our sister city).
As the first Brits to ever be part of the conference they came away with a Gold award for most innovative program, and a Silver for most creative!
Sophie studied Media and Communications, specialising in Radio and is now an author, radio presenter, producer and music journalist.
She said: “Birmingham City University has been a massive help to me in terms of the real world of radio. I am extremely thankful for all the help of my tutors over the years, who have always gone above and beyond to give me the skills for the media industry. Especially Sam Coley, in his radio documentary class.”
The 75th Annual IBS New York City Conference featured over 150 speakers, over 100 sessions and tours and 1,400 attendees from all over the world making this the largest IBS conference of the year and a brilliant place for Sophie to receive her awards.
