The saxophone department presents a concert of music directed by Anna Brooks and Andy Tweed. Focussing on the versatility of the the instrument, expect to hear music influenced by Motown, funk and more. The students will be joined by a jazz department rhythm section. And the concert will feature a new composition by Chalcedony Williams for saxophone quartet.
The Summer Chamber Music Festival celebrates the achievements of the Conservatoire’s student ensembles (this year approaching 100!), and provides a platform for some of them.
This year, Strings and Piano will focus on Mendelssohn and Schumann, whose wonderful Romantic chamber music includes so many favourite works.
The opening showcase concert brings offerings from different departments, finishing with Mendelssohn’s Octet in which The Gildas Quartet (this year’s Junior Fellows) will team up with four strings students. The Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Prize is always a highlight, with five finalist ensembles giving their all. Concerts will run throughout the day, and full details will appear in the Festival brochure, available at the beginning of May.
