Conductor Daniele Rosina
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Projects Orchestra
Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn & Strings
Bartók Viola Concerto
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.1
In this concert, four final-year students have an opportunity to perform a concerto with an orchestra of their peers.
Bartók’s Viola Concerto was one of the last pieces written by the composer, and indeed was left unfinished at the time of his death. Conversely, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto was a very early work, written in 1891 when the composer was only 18, although it underwent substantial revision later in his career. In between these pieces, two soloists join force to perform Britten’s Serenade, a song cycle for tenor with solo horn and string orchestra.
