Interiors & Lifestyle Futures (ILF) from the Faculty of the Arts, Design and Media is holding an event on 30 April 2015 at the Parkside Building. It will comprise at least 16 local manufacturers and service providers ranging from lasers cutters to digital printing and plastic moulding to electroforming.

Many of the companies ILF works with are small design led businesses who have little time to research suppliers and specialists in the region. The event will provide an opportunity for them to find out about alternative methods of manufacture and use of materials, as well as expanding their product development knowledge and explore design possibilities of the processes available to them.

This event should also be useful for students to gain understanding of what is available in the region should they be planning to set up in business or to work in a design environment. Students, staff and alumni will be very welcome but for safety reasons we need to be able to monitor numbers. Please register at Eventbrite and encourage interested students to do the same.

The event will include two speakers: Sheridan Chaffey, Director, New Channel Developments Ltd and Patricia van den Akker Director, The Design Trust, an online business school for designers and makers.

Sheridan is a founder member of the Institute of Digital and Direct Marketing and a former marketing director for Kays Catalogue in Worcester. He will explain how companies can find the right sales channels to get their products to major high street retailers.

Patricia is a regular speaker at events, workshops and webinars across the UK. She has written 100s of blog posts on wide range of creative business topics and a regular column for Crafts Magazine as The Design Doctor. Patricia will explore the topic of identifying and selling more to dream clients.

There will also be a display of work from local designer-makers who have been helped by ILF and who can also share their experience in setting up in business.

Make it in the West Midlands will be an informal event running from 8.30am to 2pm. More details of the exhibitors are available at the Interiors & Lifestyle Futures blog
