This term's Liederabend, performed by students and staff of the vocal and keyboard studies departments, consists of songs by two contrasting giants of the early twentieth-century, Ravel and Gershwin, both of whom died in 1937 having mixed jazz and classical elements in their music, and who famously met in New York in 1928. Roussel's "Jazz dans la nuit", a song by another major French composer who died in 1937, provides a nightcap to end the evening.
