Peter Hay has been committed to improving the quality of life for second city residents and strengthening people’s voices. Having trained as a social worker, Hay spent a long career working in social services in both Grimsby and Birmingham, and also served as President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services.


Sarah-Jane Marsh

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust

Sarah-Jane Marsh, Chief Executive of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, 
Renowned for an innovative approach to NHS services, and putting patients and staff at the heart of all she does, Sarah-Jane created the integrated Women’s and Children’s Trust, when she merged Birmingham Women’s with Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2017.


Dame Professor Elizabeth Anionwu CBE

Sickle cell and thalassemia nurse specialist

Professor Anionwu has had a celebrated career and after overcoming a challenging start in life she went on to become a nurse, health visitor and tutor after being inspired by a nun who cared for her eczema. She set up the UK’s first ever sickle cell and thalassaemia nurse counselling service, and is celebrated for her pioneering work to further treatment and support for those living with the condition.
