Events and Celebrations

Black History Month 2019

The 2019 national theme for BHM shone a spotlight on the achievements of Black women. In recognition of this we were proud to exhibit artwork and dynamic photography produced by students of Birmingham City University, alongside artefacts provided courtesy of the BCU archives. Celebrations included contributions from motivational speakers and local Birmingham based Jazz Musicians the Blue Notes.

Disability History Month 2019

UK Disability History Month is an annual event which has been celebrated since 2010 which creates a platform that focuses on the history of the struggle for equality and human rights of disabled people. The BCU EDI Unit recognises the rights to equality for disabled staff and students we therefore use this month to celebrate not only the achievements of disabled people from all walks of life; but also to raise awareness amongst staff about the accomplishments of BCU staff and students with disabilities.
