Born in Paisley, Scotland, educated at Perth Academy and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Phil spent a year working as a freelance journalist in America. The subsequent move back to the Midlands saw Phil work as an Art Director at Longleys & Hoffman which morphed into an Ogilvy Benson & Mather agency.
These advertising years gave way to a decade of running his own studio, after which he took a position as a Lecturer at Bournville College of Art. Phil has travelled extensively for the University, lecturing in the States, Europe and the Far East and has managed a number of home courses, also writing education programmes, co-directing MA and taking responsibility for overseas exchange schemes within the School of Visual Communication.
