The mental health and wellbeing team is here to support students with mental health difficulties, provide advice and information on mental health issues or simply help students learn more about and improve their wellbeing.
Our trained Mental Health Advisers and Student Wellbeing Adviser offer support and guidance to students experiencing mental health difficulties, or who are concerned about someone else's mental wellbeing. We can also advise staff who have concerns about a student.
We can provide one-off general advice, or more specialised, long-term support, and through close working relationships with tutors, other University departments and members of staff, and external agencies (eg NHS health services), we aim to provide students with a supporting and inclusive learning environment.
For further information about any of our services, please call us on +44 (0)121 331 7748/5588 or email us at mentalhealth.advisor@bcu.ac.uk.
You can also visit us in person at the Student Services department on City North Campus.
How are we different to counselling?
Our Mental Health Advisers (MHA), Student Wellbeing Adviser (SWA) and Counsellors all aim to help students who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.
However, the main difference between us and counsellors is that the emphasis of our work is on practical support rather than therapeutic interventions.
