General Information
- The floors are carpeted in the corridors, stairwells, bedrooms and lounge area, the en-suite has a tiled floor and the kitchen has lino.
- Bedrooms are a standard single bedrooms with under bed storage, mattress, mattress cover, study desk, study chair, desk lamp, wardrobe, curtains, storage heater, book shelves. The deluxe rooms have either a bigger bathroom or more floor space.
- Telephones are pay as you available through ask 4, top ups can be made on line
- Kitchen/lounge have: electric cookers, fridge freezers, dining table & chairs, coffee tables,lounge chairs, microwave, toaster, kettle, bread bin, iron & board, mop & bucket, dustpan & brush, bin, bowl & chopping board.
- En-suites consist of a sink, WC and shower, they also have a towel rail, towel hooks x2 shower curtain, vanity mirror & light.
- Laundry facility is open 24hrs, 7 days a week, and has 8 washers and 10 dryers £2.20 per wash & £1 per dry. The laundry area is cleaned daily & serviced every week.
- Parking is limited with only 38 spaces, students can apply at Opal 1 reception for parking space. Parking will be allocated on a first come first served basis at a charge of £350 each for 43 weeks and must be paid within 1 week of the space being allocated.
- 3 bike sheds with racking are available at no charge to Opal 1 residents
- A double door entry fob system is in operation, each fob is programmed for each occupier ,replacement fobs cost £25
- Replacement post box key will be chargeable at £5.00 per key
- Buses run regularly from outside Opal 1 to the City Centre.
- Fiveways and New Street station are both within a short walking distance.
Heating
At Opal we have storage heating, the heaters are located under the study desk and can be switched on for 30mins, 1hr or 2hrs
Post
Post is delivered by Royal Mail to Opal 1 reception area where it is sorted and delivered to the flat letter box which is located at the bottom of each block by 12pm each day. Recorded delivery items will be signed for and note will be left in the flat letter box. On collection of the item residents will need to bring the note to reception along with ID and their delivery will be given to them. Unfortunately care of items is not always possible and will not be accepted by Opal 1.
Cookers
The cookers are electric, they have 4 hob rings, a grill and oven section, the model is either Ignis or Electrolux, all have extractor fans. A Fire extinguisher and blanket is provided in each kitchen.
Cleaning
There are cleaners on site who have a rota to clean all communal areas in each block twice a week. The communal areas include lifts, stairways, and landings. Cleaners are not responsible for cleaning inside flats, this is up to the residents. Inspections are undertaken every term for cleanliness and damage, any damage found will be rectified and the flat will be charged.
Common Room
The common room has a 51inch LCD TV with a Sky package including sports this is available for all residents to use.
Leisure
Gym and Leisure facility are available onsite at a charge of approx £25.00 per month with no joining fee. This includes up to date equipment, a 16m swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

All students paying by instalments must provide a UK based guarantor, who earns over £10,000pa. All guarantors must provide a utility bill valid within 6 months of the students application along with a form of photographic ID for example passport or driving licence. Photocopies of ID’s are recommended.
