Crime Scene Room - News Story

"A girl has been murdered and the investigators have only 20 minutes to learn the identity of the killer before they strike again".  Sound like the plot for a new Hollywood thriller? It is in fact the story behind Tip-Off, a new escape game being launched within the Criminology Department at Birmingham City University.

Both prospective and current students, in teams of four, will be given the opportunity to take part in this unique challenge, which seamlessly blends forensic investigation with escapology. Those keen will be given a crime-scene suit, along with a short safety briefing, before the twenty minute countdown begins.

The rise in escape games has exploded in both the UK and Europe over the last five years and Birmingham City University has been quick to take advantage of this emerging market. With Tip-Off already attracting interest from both staff and students, the project highlights the importance of interactive learning at the higher education level.

The game requires competitors to work under pressure, communicate as a team and demonstrate problem solving skills - the core attributes of employability.

Teams that have already been brave enough to take on the challenge have highlighted the complexity of the varying problems and how it allowed them to take on the role of police investigators. Tip-Off represents the continued commitment of BCU staff to generate new and exciting ideas for all its criminology students. For those joining our Department for the first time in September 2016, be prepared to engage your investigative skills to crack this unsolved murder.

Whether you’re new or current learner returning to us, you will have the chance to take on Tip-Off both as part of the activities being organised for induction week as well as other events running throughout the year. Let's see who can solve it first!
