Dr Emily Harrison
Emily completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology at Coventry University in 2011 and went on to complete a PhD in reading development, also at Coventry, in early 2015. Her research has largely focused on children’s reading development, more specifically to do with the role of rhythmic awareness in the development of early literacy skills.
As part of her PhD, Emily developed a rhythm-based training programme which was suitable for use in both beginning readers and older struggling readers, and demonstrated the effectiveness of this method for improving the reading skills of children in both groups in comparison to a control. She has also worked on various other projects through collaborations and research assistant work (see publications below).
