Based in the Division of Psychology, Amy Cook’s research focuses on poor comprehenders among children.

She uses both the visual world and eye-tracking paradigms to explore whether poor comprehenders – children who show significant impairments in their reading comprehension despite having age-appropriate reading accuracy – differ from typically developing children and adults in their ability to map language onto the visual environment.

Amy's earlier research concerned the capacity demands arising during speech production. In particular, her PhD research explored the capacity demands arising during lexical selection, phonological encoding and self-monitoring.
