Design Methods, Methodologies, Techniques and Pedagogy

Design education has a long history in Europe and the UK, and the establishment of design education institutes in the developing and emerging economies is increasing rapidly. Whilst much is known with respect to the 'basics' and philosophy of design training, the arrival of new techniques, technologies, theories and materials, and the evolution of novel teaching methodologies imply that the education space is morphing rapidly, and that new approaches to education might generate significant rewards (both qualitatively and quantitatively). Important themes for further investigation include:

  • Visualisation of Meaning and Values: Enhancing Brand Experience
  • Divergent and Convergent Thinking: Unlocking Wicked Problems
  • Technology and Curation: Approaches, Applications and Implications
  • 3D Technologies, Audience Participation and User/Market Engagement
  • Trans-cultural Communities: Implications for Design Pedagogy
  • Distributed Design Learning (and digital learning environments).
