Sky Scholarship

Sky scholarshipThe Sky Scholarship offers media students the chance to gain work experience with leading media and communication company BSkyB.

The scheme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate Media and Communication students – you don’t have to be a specialist in television production to be considered.

The annual programme offers three intense placements in BSkyB’s London headquarters, where students work with teams in various departments – from news and politics to sports and arts broadcasting – before specialising in one of these areas.

The student judged to have performed best during the two-week placement receives a scholarship award from BSkyB of £1,500, with the two runners-up each receiving £500.

Often, shortlisted students who don’t make the final selection are still invited to visit BSkyB for a few days to gain a taste of working in television.

Many of the students who have won placements with Sky have gone on to get a job there when they have graduated.

Dan Bardell, who has been working for Sky for almost three years, said: “The Sky Scholarship gave me a sense of what it was like to work within one of the biggest media companies around.

“Winning the scholarship gave me an advantage when applying for a job at Sky and has set me up to pursue a good career within media. I have now worked for Sky for nearly three years and I can safely say the scholarship gave me the best possible opportunity.”
