Margherita Taylor

Margherita Taylor got her lucky break in the media after winning a competition to find a new DJ for Birmingham radio station BRMB.

She so impressed the heads of the station, that within one week she was presenting her own show. Yet luck can only take you so far — perseverance is the key.

As Margherita says: "Don't give up. It can take time to get the job you really want. Be open to all opportunities that come your way, even if they are not in your plans."

Her career developed quickly, and she moved from BRMB to Capital Radio in London, where she still presents her own weekend shows. She was also co-presenter of the popular Channel 4 youth slot T4 with Dermot O'Leary.

She remembers her time at Birmingham City University fondly and credits the course with giving her career a good starting point: "The year I was in contained the most amazing mix of people, which meant we had a lot of fun as well as working hard. I loved the mix of theory and practice but it's doing the work placements that sets Birmingham City University graduates apart from other media degree holders".
