Overview

This course is designed for students from absolute beginners to those with experience who wish to refresh or enhance their skills in a friendly and creative environment.

The emphasis on the course is to have fun and to learn new skills in a relaxed but challenging atmosphere. This course takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.

The essence of drama is the play and students “working” on Tuesday evenings will be rediscovering exactly how to do that.

The next start date for this course will be announced shortly.

The key components of the course are:

  • Reading and memory skills
  • Physical characterisation – including clown, mime and mask skills
  • Vocal skills – spoken and sung
  • Working in small and large groups to tell a story – much of this work may be devised
  • Telling stories from texts both ancient and modern – Ancient Greece to yesterday
  • Learning to improvise.

Students are encouraged to set their own learning agenda in order to achieve personal goals and establish their own working practice. We endeavour to get mix the groups each term and to persuade students to experience as many different approaches to performance as possible.

Students may also be offered the opportunity to study across a broad syllabus for external examinations in performance and communication skills.
