Course Overview
Saving money is high on everyone's agenda at the moment and is one of the reasons why we are bringing you this innovative new course.
You may be thinking, what actually is open data? If that’s the case, open data is the idea that certain data should be made freely available to the public to use and re-mix in whatever way they like.
Making and Saving Money with Open Data does what it says on the tin. It aims to provide you with all the knowledge you need to save and make money from this idea by producing data driven applications and developing effective information sharing approaches.
The three-day course is brought to you by one of the leading media schools in the country, Birmingham School of Media, and is taught by NTI Birmingham at Birmingham City University.
Students on this course who successfully completed course assignments are also awarded 20 academic credits towards a Masters degree, as part of Skillset’s UK-wide Build Your Own MA programme (www.bcu.ac.uk/byoma).
Entry Requirements
The course would appeal to a variety of applicants including product developers, business analysts, web analysts, content strategists, information architects, producers and knowledge managers.
The course structure means it will not interfere with and can easily be fitted around your professional work.

The module will cover five key areas in developing an open data project from idea generation to design, production and pitching the project to potential investors.
It will cover all the latest open data developments and ‘open knowledge’ best practice as well as your own open data project which will be supported by leading industry experts.
Course Structure
The module will be taught at three one-day, face-to-face sessions, combined with online learning and assessment work.
