Course Overview

Today’s 24 hour media has an insatiable need for content to either fulfil greater consumer expectations or to pursue a particular angle on a story to gain commercial advantage. Increasingly organisations require senior executives, without previous training to present critical information via the media.

NTI's 1 day course will enable delegates to:
  • Understand the need to use the media to promote the work of their organisation and demonstrate greater clarity about what they and the organisation are looking for from an interview
  • Understand how to manage difficult questions and maintain a cool head
  • Understand what the news media are looking for from an interviewee
  • Be able to demonstrate greater confidence in approaching radio and television interviews and be confident during interviews
  • Be able to talk about their work / experiences in a way that will engage a radio or television audience
  • Be able to identify key messages within their areas of work and understand how these can become ‘stories’ for news media
  • Be able to sum up those key messages (or areas of work/experience/expertise) concisely
  • Be able to evaluate their own ‘performance’ during interviews and identify to which (if either) medium their interview style is better suited
What you will learn
  • News & Angles – looking at your stories and how to get journalists interested
  • Interviews – an introduction to interviews and how to do them
  • One to One Radio interviews in the sound studio
  • Focusing your story – the sound bite briefing for TV interviews
